A Universal Language on the web

Are you keeping up with modern technology? I hope you are because technology is always changing and you do not want to get left behind. Do you know what HTML stands for? HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. An HTML file is made up of small markup tags (www.w3schools.com). Tim Berners-Lee was one of the people to take part in the invention of hypertext links on the internet (Oliver 11). “Hypertext is a method of storing data through a computer program that allows a user to create and link fields of information” (Dictonary.com)
HTML is used to put together web pages by using codes for pictures, text, and other information in an organized way. This great invention made the creation of web pages possible and consequently produced a massive phenomenon by all people with the rising use of the internet. “By 1993, almost 100 computers throughout the world were equipped to serve up HTML pages” (Oliver 11).
So you are probably thinking how this is all possible? HTML is made up of elements. The elements are made up of content and attributes (Oliver 16). When viewing a web page this is made possible by simply clicking on the item you wish to view. The various types of characters that are used form the specific codes needed for a web page. The information on the websites such as graphics or other media is stored in separate files different from HTML commands. HTML text is transferred onto the computer screen which makes up the web page. For example, if you want to get to a particular page you would just click on the page and it will take you there right away.
In addition, you can see animated pictures or hear voices all with a click of your mouse. This creates not only an advantage for people surfing the internet but making it fun at the same time. It is much simpler and easier to use and view; instead of the old fashion way of just reading a book or magazine page by page without any sound. Now, don’t you think this makes sense and so much fun? I bet you cannot wait to get started. First, continue to read this article to find out more information about HTML.
There are many faces to HTML because you can get as creative as you want when making your own web page (Oliver 19). There are two ways to make an HTML page, “you can type out the text and HTML commands [you] with a text editor, or you can use graphical software that generates the HTML commands for you” (Oliver 17). The more you learn about the different text commands, the more you can design and enhance your web page. However, there is a disadvantage because viewers of a web page can change the font or style if he or she prefers.
Furthermore, a web page may appear as just one page, but it is really made up of many pages because information can be transferred from different computers around the world (Oliver 13). That is why HTML can be considered a universal language on the web.
So what are you waiting for? Start making your very own web page using HTML. I would suggest starting off with the basics and work your way up from there. Do not get frustrated while using HTML in the beginning because it will take time and patience to fully learn and understand all the possibilities. HTML is a great way to open doors for your future because many jobs today have something to do with a computer. I cannot wait to get started on my own webpage.
